Briarwood Mall avoided a last-minute holiday shopping melee after police were called to maintain order in the crowd of shoppers trying to score the new shoes early this morning. Champs Sports and Foot Locker - both owned by New York-based Foot Locker Inc. - opened hours early to sell the shoes. Briarwood Mall General Manager Ida Hendrix said about 60 customers were "anxiously” gathering to buy the $175 shoes. She said no scuffles or fights broke out. “We proactively called Ann Arbor (police) just to make sure that there was line control,” Hendrix said. Foot Locker corporate officials could not be reached for comment, and a Champs store manager at Briarwood declined to comment. News for Monday 28 December, 2009 Recent News |
